Solutions for the High-Energy Dog

My dog just turned a year old last week, and he’s still got just as much energy as in his younger puppy days. With my hectic work schedule and family commitments, I only have time to take him for one walk per day. Like most Dalmatians, the dog requires much more exercise than a short walk can provide. Recognizing that the dog was showing signs of over-eagerness when our walks were about to end, I decided to take a new tactic.
I found a bicycle dog leash online and started using it immediately. It took some time for me to get used to the concept of riding alongside my dog – we take up more lateral space now on the sidewalk – and the leash was an adjustment for him as well. At first he tried running too fast, pulling the weight of the bike behind him. I convinced him to slow down and stride at the proper pace, and since then things have been rolling smoothly.
