We have a Plott hound that loves to play outside and role around in the grass. Because of the coat on our Plott, we cannot and should not bath her too often; about twice a year is recommended. Their coat has natural oils that protect her for the elements; however, she gets quite dirty and when she goes for swim that wet dog smell can be a little much.
We researched several different kinds of dry dog shampoo to find the perfect fit for our dog. Our search paid off with a dry dog shampoo we can apply daily that will not affect her flea & tick treatment, irritate her eyes, and still accomplish what we needed. You simply spray it on and towel dry. This dry dog shampoo keeps her clean and smelling great in between her regular dog grooming bath.
One of the most asked questions I encounter is “how do I give my dog a pedicure.” For a new puppy, the answer is quite simple as they are very young and most likely have never had their nails clipped therefore, never experienced someone clipping into the quick. For older dogs however, that have had their nails clipped to short, the process can be problematic.
The first thing to do is invest in a quality pedicure dog nail clipper. Dog nail clippers come in a variety of styles and for the average dog owner the best dog nail clippers to buy is one with a safety that prevents you from clipping into the quick.
If your dog is a fighter or a member of the large breeds there are several holistic natural anxiety treatments available to calm your dog and take the edge off dog nail clipping. Another solution is to have two people; one to somewhat vigorously, rub your dogs’ head while the other clips the nails, starting with the back nails first and moving to the front. Once your dog realizes that they will not be hurt using pedicure dog nail clippers the process will get easier. Remember lots of praise goes a long a way.
As one of the largest dog breeds on the planet, the English Mastiff can be a handful for its owner, but the Mastiff is also one of the most loving and fun breeds to own. Despite their size and appearance, Mastiffs tend to be calm, affectionate, and good with kids and small children. When put on the defense, Mastiffs can also act as guard dogs; they are fiercely loyal to their masters. Mastiffs do not require excessive exercise, but do require regular exercise throughout their lives. Because of their size, Mastiffs will require a great deal more food than a standard medium size dog.
Items like thick leather dog leashes, special order collars, and raised dog bowls may be necessary to accommodate the dog’s size, and can be purchased through specialty stores or online.
Backpacking is one of my favorite pass times and with most places, my dog is able to join me. When we go backpacking, we are usually gone for about five days so the backpacks are pretty full. My dog has her own dog backpack so she can pull her own weight.
The dog backpack carriers everything she needs from food & water to her first aid kit made especially for dogs. The best feature about my dog’s backpack is that you can detach the bags while the harness stays in place. Perfect for when we reach our campsite and I need to take for a walk.
One of the things we noticed about dog is that she is starting to lick her joints and paws. Upon leaving the vet we found that she is starting to develop arthritis and will soon need some help to reach her favorite spot on the couch.
As she is a rather large dog, picking her up each time is not possible so decided to get some dog stairs. We opted for designer dog stairs with a carpeted tread to keep her slipping. They perfect in our living room and we can take in the bedroom so she can use the dog stairs for bed as well.
There was no problem getting to her use the dog stairs as soon as they hit the floor she climbed right up on the couch. We sat there and watched a great movie the rest of the night.
Small dogs can be become scared when out in public especially in large crowds. The fear of being trampled, lost even stolen are real possibilities for your small dog. The best method of transportation is a dog stroller.
A dog stroller protects your dog in large crowds and eases the anxiety they feel when out in public. Socializing your dog is an important aspect of their health and well being but difficult to accomplish if your dog is afraid of going with you on errands or visiting friends and family. A dog stroller provides your dog the security they need as it gives the same feeling as their dog crate while allowing the freedom of traveling with you.

Don’t Lose Your Companion Get A GPS Dog Collar
I was reading an article not long ago about a family who recovered their stolen dog. It took several days but they were finally reunited, however during those missing days the family was devastated. I did some research and found our Golden Retriever is among the top ten breeds thieves look for.
We outfitted our dog with a GPS Dog Collar. There is a service you have to sign up with and within a couple of hours; the GPS dog collar was online and tracking. Thankfully, we have not had an excuse to use the collar but we can sleep better knowing should our dog get lost or stolen we will recover him. The price for the dog collar is well worth the peace of mind.

Our dog is one heavy chewer! Kong dog toys work great but we wanted to give him some variety. We have tried several different plush dog toys but he rips the stuffing out in minutes. Knowing that eating the stuffing is not good for our dog we set out looking for an alternative.
We saw an ad on television for a stuffing free dog toy. Our local pet store did not carry this item, however we did find it at our favorite website. This flat stuffing free dog toy is perfect…he can chew away, toss it up in the air whatever he chooses. He loves it and we love the fact of no stuffing to clean up or worry about him eating it with this safe dog toy.
We love to travel and everywhere we go so does our dog. As she is a small Griffon, we like to keep her contained and out of trouble when we reach our destination. The best solution we found for this is soft dog travel crate which is large enough for a few of her toys but not so large to be inconvenient to carry.
The dog travel crate also works great for trips to the vet. We have a busy vet office and there is always several dogs in the lobby and the dog crate keeps her safe while she waits for her turn. Because she can see through all four sides, she is less anxious when she sees the crate and seems to know the destination is going to be fun.
The dog travel crate works so well we even ordered one for our cat. She can be a finicky one but no problem with this crate…she loves it.
