With temperatures, continuing to stay above the 90-degree mark your dog could be in danger. It does not seem the relief from the hot weather will come soon enough giving a much-needed break to our four legged family members.

Heat stroke and other health related issues not only affect pet parents they also affect our pets. To avoid serious health risks keep your dog indoors during the heat of the day with plenty of fresh cool water. Only let them out for exercise in early morning or after sunset and then only for short periods with cool water available.

There are plenty of portable dog water bottles available to pet parents for those owners that live in the city or for people that enjoy their morning run with their dog. Play it safe – no vigorous play or exercise perhaps some basic training to keep young minds occupied, have plenty of fresh cool water, and keep them indoors with air conditioning or a floor fan.

With the summer temperatures rising, pet owners need to be aware of the dangers of leaving their dog unattended in the car. Most of us whom own dogs like to take them with us everywhere we can from short errands to visiting family and friends.

However, leaving your dog in the car even with a window cracked in the hot days of summer can severely dehydrate your dog even for short periods. Keeping a dog travel bowl filled with cool water is an inexpensive way to help keep your dog hydrated. To check for dehydration look at their gums, if they are dry then your dog is dehydrated.

While you should never leave your dog in a closed-up car for any length of time leaving the windows cracked and having cool water, available in a dog travel bowl will give you the time to make those short runs to the corner store.

Up until last week, we had been using an old comforter in the cargo area of our Crossover to keep the dog hair out the car. We have a Dalmatian and a golden retriever so the dog hair has been an issue for us. Especially with the Dalmatian, since her hair sticks like glue and we have a black interior.

We decided to look for a dog travel accessory that would look better as well as do a better job. This cargo cover is great because it goes all the way up the back of the seats and has Velcro to help it stay in place along with adjustable clip-on straps that go around the headrests. It fits perfectly in our Crossover. Exactly the dog travel accessory we needed!

Socializing Small Frightened Dogs

26 December;  Author: Daily Wag

Dog_in_StrollerSmall dogs can be become scared when out in public especially in large crowds. The fear of being trampled, lost even stolen are real possibilities for your small dog. The best method of transportation is a dog stroller.

A dog stroller protects your dog in large crowds and eases the anxiety they feel when out in public. Socializing your dog is an important aspect of their health and well being but difficult to accomplish if your dog is afraid of going with you on errands or visiting friends and family. A dog stroller provides your dog the security they need as it gives the same feeling as their dog crate while allowing the freedom of traveling with you.

Solution To Safe Dog Travel

21 December;  Author: ILuvGriffons

Dog Travel CrateWe love to travel and everywhere we go so does our dog. As she is a small Griffon, we like to keep her contained and out of trouble when we reach our destination. The best solution we found for this is soft dog travel crate which is large enough for a few of her toys but not so large to be inconvenient to carry.

The dog travel crate also works great for trips to the vet. We have a busy vet office and there is always several dogs in the lobby and the dog crate keeps her safe while she waits for her turn. Because she can see through all four sides, she is less anxious when she sees the crate and seems to know the destination is going to be fun.

The dog travel crate works so well we even ordered one for our cat. She can be a finicky one but no problem with this crate…she loves it.

Running at Night with Jake

14 December;  Author: 4MyBestFriend

dog safety

About two years ago, I adopted a German Shepherd named Jake from the local animal shelter, and the two of us have been inseparable ever since. Jake always wants to be near me; he sleeps on my bed, sits next to me on the couch, and I’ve even caught him wanting jump in the shower a few times. I’ve always liked to go running late at night before bed, and Jake accompanies me on the runs. To ensure proper dog safety, I put him on a dog leash and make him wear a reflective dog collar.

Initially I’d leave Jake home, and when I left the house, I could hear him barking, and he’d still be barking most of the time when I returned! I wear a reflective hat, so to the distant driver, I’m sure Jake and I look quite the oddity. But running keeps us both in shape, and afterward I come home and am tired and ready for bed.

Finally A Dog Ramp That Works

17 October;  Author: Daily Wag

At 13 years and 125 lbs our mutt, Cooper, was having trouble getting into the SUV and the full-size pick-up. I read many reviews before selecting a dog dog-rampsramp, and this one seemed the best value for the size of our dog.

He goes with us everywhere and it is a relief not to watch him just stare at the back of the Jeep because he cannot get up on his own. It did not take long for him to figure out what the dog ramp was for, either.

With traveling north for the color change and soon on our way to a Halloween party we needed to do something. The dog ramp gives him the freedom he use to have while keeping his costume from being disheveled.

Dog Seatbelt

Every year around this time, we take a trip up North to see the fall colors. This year we took our Golden Retriever (Madison) with us on the road. We invested in a dog seatbelt and buckling Madison in off we went. Having her in a dog seatbelt gave her added protection and gave us piece of mind.

After arriving at our destination unnoticed by us, several squirrels ran by the car and Madison’s instincts went into high gear. The only thing that kept her from jumping out of the car was the dog seatbelt. We were able to attach her leash right to the dog seatbelt and off we went enjoying the rest of our day.

Road Trip – Keeping Your Dog Safe

4 September;  Author: Daily Wag

Dog Car Travel

Putting our seatbelts on and strapping in our kids has become the law in most states. There are car seats for every growth stage in your child’s life. The reason for this is safety; study after study shows wearing a seatbelt during an accident will save lives. So what about your dog; is there a dog seatbelt for them?

The answer is a resounding yes. If you’re like most dog owners you like to take your dog everywhere. The phase that can get your dog’s tail wagging is “Let’s go for a ride.” However, do you have the right dog harness to protect your best friend should the unfortunate happen while driving? Dog safety harnesses come in many different sizes and shapes including a dog car seat for smaller breeds.

Another benefit to a dog safety harness is when you stop at a rest area or arrive at your destination; your dog will wait patiently for you to release him/her instead jumping out the door. As dog owners, we are charged with providing a safe environment for our dogs. A dog safety harness will provide the security your dog needs while driving.

A Dog Crate You Can Grow With

3 September;  Author: Daily Wag

There are many benefits to crate training your dog. From housebreaking to safety a dog crate is an excellent training tool and safe haven for your Dog Cratedog. With so many dog crates to choose from the task of picking the right crate for your dog can seem confusing. Pick a crate to small and your dog will not feel comfortable and will refuse to use it; to large and the feeling of den safety for your dog will not be accomplished.

One the best alternatives to choosing the right dog crate is one that grows with your dog. A life stage crate offers such an opportunity by including a moveable panel that can be adjusted as your puppy grows. These crates are also collapsible making them easy to take along on a family trip.

Whether traveling by car or air plane there is a dog crate that will fit your need. If traveling by air be sure to check with your airline to review the regulations and restrictions.

Crate training your dog offers not only safety while you’re away from home but also a den and safe haven. Dogs are natural den animals and the right size dog crate can offer him/her just that.
